The main character, Rick Rescorla, was sung by Thomas Hampson, an incredibly gifted American baritone who pushed his portrayal to the limits. The Opera’s use of the prologue, referencing 9/11 with a piece of singed paper falling from above, and the epilogue with the after effects of the tragedy of 9/11 with the main characters walking through the debris of ground zero, this time with hundreds and hundreds of papers falling from above (I imagine a massive cleanup after the opera), was very effective. It was commissioned by SF Opera, with Libretto by Donna Di Novelli and music by Christopher Theofanidis.
